Creating VETFUS, Digital-Based Infusions for Animals, SVMBS IPB University Students Win Gold at PIMNAS

VETFUS is an innovation developed by the PKM SVMBS IPB team to overcome the problems faced by practitioners when providing infusion therapy to animals. VETFUS devices work using digital technology based on the Internet of Things. This infusion is pinned in animals with the use of a special vest.

The infusion fluid flow system in this device does not rely on gravity as in conventional infusion systems. Therefore, if the position of the infusion bag is lower than the point of administration of the infusion, the system can still work. The infusion bag no longer needs to be placed in a higher position and can be placed in a special vest pinned to the animal’s body.

This innovation was developed to answer the existing problem, namely that infused animals move limitedly because the infusion bag must always be hung. The liquid feeding system on VETFUS has an automatic pump system and remote control, using the concept of the Internet of Things.

VETFUS is equipped with sensors to detect blood entering the infusion tube so that it can provide real-time notifications to veterinary nurses. In addition, VETFUS is also able to measure the amount of infusion fluid that has been given and monitoring can be done in real time via a smartphone.

The PKM SVMBS IPB University team also explained the potential of VETFUS to be developed for other animals, so that infusion administration becomes easier, safer, and more precise. Through this creative idea, the team consisting of Afif, Hasnah, Nurmasari, and Masfufah with the supervisor Dr. drh. Ridi Arif has won first place in the poster or won a gold medal at PIMNAS 34 in 2021.

The main output of this activity is a Digital-Based Portable Infusion Vest for Pets. Other outputs of this activity include daily notes, progress reports, final reports, and physical prototypes (products from PKM-KC). The output obtained has succeeded in obtaining intellectual property rights in the form of simple patents, scientific articles published by the Ministry of Education and Culture, and gold medal equivalent awards in the poster category.
