ABSTRACT

The objective of this research was to study the histopathology of trachea and lungs of broiler that challenged by avian influenza virus after treatment with stars anise extract (illicium verum). This experiment used 14 heads of Cobb broiler, and were divided into 4 group treatments, they included: positive control (KP) who were not given star anise but challenged by AI virus, negative control (KN) who were not given star anise and not challenged by AI virus, first treatment which were given the star anise and were not challenged by AI virus (P1), and the second treatment which were not given the star anise and were challenged by AI virus AI (P2). The results showed histopathologically significant difference between the trachea of KP, P1 and KN. In contrast, lung of KP and P2 were also histopathology significantly different from KN. It concluded that the active ingredient of the star anise extract at 1 ml/day per head during 3 weeks can reduced the damage of trachea and lung of broiler after challenging with avian influenza H5N1 104,0 EID50/0.1 ml per head.
