ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to observe potency of bupivacaine as an alternative anaestheticum in catfish (Pangasius pangasius). The fish that used in this study was 600 heads of catfish which had 1.5 inch body length. The fishes were divided into 6 groups which were P0 (not soaked in the bupivacaine, as control), P1 (soaked bupivacaine’s dose 10 ppm), P2 (soaked bupivacaine’s dose 20 ppm), P3 (soaked bupivacaine’s dose 30 ppm), P4 (soaked bupivacaine’s dose 40 ppm), and P5 (soaked bupivacaine’s dose 50 ppm). Parameter that used were onset, duration, and mortality rate. The result showed that group P2 (dose 20 ppm) was effective dose as anaestheticum in catfish, P2 had fast onset that was10.75 minute and had long duration 34.25 minute and death 5%.
