The General Lecture for the Veterinary Profession Education Students Promotes Pet Animal Nutritional Management

School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (SVMBS) IPB University in collaboration with Happy Dog Happy Cat (HDHC) Indonesia, held a general lecture entitled “Pet Animal Nutritional Management” on March 21, 2023. The students of Veterinary Profession Education (VPE) Program SVMBS IPB University attended this general lecture. This lecture was held to enhance the knowledge of veterinary students, especially those who will be small animal practitioners.

The opening speech was delivered by the Executive Director of Animal the Teaching Hospital SVMBS IPB University, Prof. Dr. Gunanti, MS. In this general lecture, drh. Agus Wijaya, MSc, PhD from SVMBS IPB University gave a talk about “Nutritional Diet for Animals”. Afterwards, drh. Anne Dawydowa from HDHC Indonesia explained about “Basic Nutrition in Dogs and Cats”. The session was moderated by Drh. Tri Isyani Tungga Dewi, M.Sc.

Various treatment strategies and diets can be used for dogs and cats with chronic kidney disease. “Chronic kidney disease cannot be cured. Therefore, the goal of nutritional therapy and management is to improve the animal’s quality of life and extend its lifespan,” explained Agus.

“In order to provide the best feeding to animals, it is necessary to take into account the type of animal (species), the stage of development (young, adolescents, adults, seniors), the body weight and the level of activity. Furthermore, it is important to provide the nutrients in a balanced and high-quality manner,” told Anne.

“This general lecture enhanced our knowledge regarding animal nutritional management. We received valuable information regarding the proper medication and diet in accordance with the disease diagnoses, “said one of the participants. (AP/KM/DAR)
